What Is Outplacement?

The mission of outplacement is to train notified employees to publicly connect,  converse, and identify with networking contacts, recruiters, and prospective employers. The process begins with self-assessment. Self-assessment determines what a client can do, will do, and is a good fit for. A roadmap or job search snapshot is created once the client’s ideal work preference is defined. This snapshot is followed by a curriculum specializing in job search strategy, marketing, research, resume writing, interviewing, networking, negotiation, recruitment, social media, and motivation. Outplacement coaching creates a competitive career transition public speaker. To paraphrase Ralph Waldo Emerson, “the first wealth is health, but the second wealth is career!” Career wealth is won. Professional athletes are coached to win games, and outplacement candidates are coached to win jobs.

Types of Outplacement
  • External corporate outplacement helps notified employees successfully transition to employment opportunities at other companies. This type of job loss is usually the result of corporate notification, rifting, downsizing, merger/acquisition, rightsizing, or economic restructuring. The outplaced employee’s former employer pays for their career transition service.
  • Internal corporate outplacement helps clients  successfully transition from one position to another within the same company system. In-placed clients undergo what some of our customers humorously call “Charm School,” or more correctly, Executive Leadership Coaching. The in-placed employee’s employer pays for their career transition service.
  • Retail outplacement occurs when the notified employee personally pays for their career transition service.
Candidates Are Coached by Career Transition Experts Who:
  • Support clients in every phase of the job search competition.
  • Introduce clients to a rich network of contacts.
  • Generate action plans needed to obtain career goals.
  • Offer the “know-how” to make clients look good in person, on paper, and online.
Other Benefits
  • Nothing succeeds like success! No one can promise job placement, but outplacement prepares individuals to compete successfully for employment opportunities.
  • Outplacement is the best hedge against underemployment.
  • Career transition coaching educates clients to the “hidden job market” where the best job opportunities are never published.
  • Outplacement creates a “win-win” scenario for the employer and prospective employee. The employer is perceived as a good corporate citizen, and the outpaced employee is not abandoned without a career transition plan.
Outplacement Accelerates Career Transition
  • Practice doesn’t make perfect; it makes permanent. The outplacement coaching clients receive accelerates their job placement.
  • Meeting with consultants, recruiters, guest speakers, and networking contacts in individual conferences and weekly forums energizes motivation.
  • Approximately 4-6% of outpaced employees secure online jobs, 5-15 % obtain them through recruiters, and about 5-10% of positions are won through public advertisements. A whopping 64-68% use networking to secure employment. Outplacement utilizes each of these job search strategies but emphasizes the importance of networking.
